Solar Activity Picks Up, Just a Bit

An M1.7 flare peaked at 02:23 UT, November 8, 2012. This is not really a big flare but everybody’s attention picks up when the activity level reached M-class (mine included). I don’t yet know where the event came from (waiting for more data) but I think it came from the new region open to rotate over the northeast limb.

The region may provide some more activity. We will have to wait to get some more data and wait until it rotates onto the disk. But the current event looks interesting. Here is a snapshot in the SDO/AIA 304 angstrom camera. This image is from just after the peak of the X-ray flare but there is still a lot of emission, which can be seen the extended part in the GOES plot.
